About Dave's STL K-9 Dog Trainers

We offer dog obedience training in St. Louis, and we consider ourselves “Balanced Trainers.” Do we use negative reinforcement or corrections? We do. Do we use positive reinforcement by means of treats and/or praise? Of course! Why do we sometimes use negative reinforcement or corrections? Because all dogs are different and some require it. We don't use the same amount of praise on a high energy Border Collie as we do on a low energy Basset Hound. In the same way we don’t use the same correction on a low energy, submissive dog as we do on a higher energy, more dominant type of dog. Some dogs you need to pile on the praise while others you need to use the brake pedal on the corrections! It’s that simple... the approach depends on YOUR dog!

In our years of experience as St. Louis dog trainers, we’ve tweaked our dog obedience classes and in-home training sessions to get the most out of your dog’s personality. The last thing you want to do when training any dog is try to make them fit into one specific training approach. All dogs are different! You should, and we do, cater our training approach to fit your dog’s needs.

More important than which dog training tool that is used (clicker, buckle collar, martingale collars, pinch or remote collars) is knowing which one fits each specific dog and when they should be used. We feel that our approach of taking all dogs through the 3 proper stages of training, in the proper order, is ideal for success. What are those stages?

  • The Correctional Stage (Some negative reinforcement comes into play)
  • The Proofing Stage (Cement and maintain learned skills)

  • PUPPY PRESCHOOL

    $30 Per Class or 


    $180 6 Week Course For puppies aged 8-16 weeks. This six week  course is designed to teach owners the principles of raising a well-socialized puppy. The focus is to ensure that your puppy grows up to be all that you wanted in a companion – but it MUST START NOW!


    Improper socialization/confidence building during puppyhood has led to many severe behavioral disorders in mature dogs. Whether this is your 1st or 5th puppy, this class is guaranteed to start your puppy off on the right paw!

  • DAY TRAINING

    Regular Day Training $1400 (Sibling Discount Available) 


    Day Training with 1 year of group classes $1700


    Includes 15 days of training in our facility (M-F) with three go-home lessons. 



    This package is great for pet owners who would like to make great strides towards stress free dog ownership and a well balanced and trained dog. During the day training program, you get to drop your dog off in the morning and pick them up each evening. While they’re with us, they are constantly supervised by a pet professional and trained from start to finish. Included with this package are three  thorough instructional private go home lessons.

  • INTRO TO AGILITY or INTRO TO RALLY

    Choose any combination of 5 private lessons, either Intro to Agility OR Intro to Rally for $350! Ready to order? You may choose either package and determine which lessons you will do when you call to schedule lessons with your trainer after purchase. CLICK HERE


    Intro to Agility 

    This will introduce you and your dog to agility obstacles like an A-frame, weave poles, a cat walk, a teeter-totter and several different jumps. This is a great introduction to those who are interested in exploring agility.


    Intro To Rally

    This course introduces you and your dog to the basic positions, meanings, signs and how to navigate through the courses.

  • DOG CONFIDENCE 101

    Dog Confidence 101  $995


    This course will specifically cover confidence building exercises and training for scared dogs, new to owner dogs, rescue /shelter dogs, small dog syndrome etc.  This course includes 3 days of training a week for 3 weeks for a total of 9 days. *not to be confused with day trains, however some basic obedience will be covered. Call for further details!

  • FOUNDATION (BASIC OBEDIENCE)

    In-Facility $900 (with 1 yr group classes, $1200)

    In-Home $1200 


    This is a basic obedience package that delivers great results through private lessons at the facility. You’ll meet with a trainer weekly (up to 8 weeks) to learn the following commands: Place, Sit, Down, Come, Heel, Off, Quiet, Release (Free), Leave-It, and Drop-It. Also includes treadmill training.


    This package delivers the foundation of training by teaching a learning & correctional stage in dog training. What you end up with is a very well-trained dog on leash who behaves well around minimal distractions.


    This package includes up to 8 lessons.


  • ADVANCED OBEDIENCE

    $1000

    Prerequisite: Foundation Training (Basic Obedience) 


    This package is the next step after Foundation Training and works on off-leash commands with remote, focused heeling and builds a better bond between owner and companion. 10-day program. Drop your dog off in the morning and pick up in the evening. Includes a go-home lesson at the end of each week. Completion of Basic Obedience is required. Remote not included. 


  • PROOFING AND REINFORCEMENT

    1 Day- $125

    5 Days- $550

    10 Days- $1000

    15 Days- $1350

    30 Days- $2550


    Now that your dog has completed their basic obedience through one of our packages, let us help you maintain these skills and work on even more distance, duration & distractions.  With these packages your dog will also get socialization with other dogs under the supervision of a trainer  This is a GREAT way to get BOTH physical and mental exercise.

    Proper dog Fitness has never been so important! Exercise offers endless benefits, both physically and mentally, for your dog’s wellbeing. Having a strong exercise routine can reduce boredom behaviors, can counter-attack anxieties, is a must for any aggression cases, and results in a calm, balanced dog. Our treadmill training offers the steps to success in order to create an exercise routine that works well for both owner and pet.  Available Monday through Friday.


    In-Home Obedience Lessons

    $160 Per 1 Hour Visit


    Private Lessons in-Facility

    $130 Per 1 Hour Lesson
